When one of my friends accused me of ignoring her in favor of my coffee cup, I was tragically shocked. Coffee over friends? Naaah.
Well the truth is a sad thing to admit, but I will nevertheless bravely concede to it. Coffee is my object of adoration; it is everything I have ever hoped for - caffeine and deliciousness with a certain flair of style. During a blizzard, a fantastically warm cup of Caramel Macchiato melts my heart and soothes my soul. On a particularly hot day, a refreshingly cold cup of Iced Peppermint White Chocolate Mocha sweeps through my mind like a wintry breeze. Life is good when you have coffee.
Please reader, abstain from rolling your eyes and sighing in exasperation for just a moment. Haven't you ever had one of those days when the world seems to go out of its orbit to pester you? Have you never had a long night when things seem to unravel as soon as you finish them? Stop and think for a moment, were you ever the victim of an unceasing joke? Perhaps you were half-sick of shadows too?
My life as a high school junior is not that unpleasant, although this view does depend on your tolerance of pain and ability to empathize. It is hard to finish everything, and it is just as difficult to maintain a life outside of it all. Is it any wonder therefore that coffee has taken such an essential role in my life? It doesn't require extra attention (minus the 5 minutes it takes to brew), and it never asks anything of me. It is useful, inexpensive, and simply marvelous.
Seriously, if you're suffering from depression, insomnia, fatigue, or just about any other kind of problems really, give coffee a try! It might just be your thing.
I have to say the same things - except about tea! Tea is such a wonderful way to relax after school, and, depending on my mood, there are so many different types of teas to choose from! Personally, I find tea infinitely superior to coffee - but I suppose that is just a matter of taste.
ReplyDeleteI think we all have that special drink/food that can always make our day a little better. I happen to feel the same way about chai tea lattes. No other drink will I spend three dollars on with such regularity. Nice post!
ReplyDeletenomnomnom. I personally love coffee as well. Well, actually, I love the smell more than anything else but when enough sugar, flavor, and cream is added, the taste is not too bad either. Nice job. :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with Edward, whenever I visit our store, I stop by and smell the delicious and freshly brewed hazelnut coffee (advertisement). I agree that coffee is quite the effective mood stabilizer, you can sit down and enjoy a nice cup of coffee just about everywhere. Nice post!
ReplyDeleteI am really scared of drinking coffee because I don't want to get addicted, but I will admit that coffee mixed with my favorite blend of hot chocolate is my favorite homemade drink.
ReplyDeleteI still agree with Agent K, tea is the bomb. It's usually less expensive than coffee and has the power to be both refreshing and calming. What are your thoughts on tea?
To Li, tea is like my pick-me-up drink while coffee is more of a perk-me-up type. When I'm sick, I love tea. I will admit that tea is much more relaxing than coffee, which is probably a result of the differing amounts of caffeine each drink has (tea has 15-70 mg while coffee has 80-130 mg of caffeine per 8 oz.). In the end, I would say that while I might attempt at a life without tea, I wouldn't lend the same courtesy to a life without coffee.
ReplyDeleteWarm beverages in general rock!
ReplyDeleteI prefer tea, because there is much more variety, but coffee is fun as well.
Technique is more important with coffee, so you can show off.
I love coffee and tea. Usually I start the day with a nice hot cup of coffee, freshly ground and prepared by my husband and colleague, Mr. Matt Mitchell. Lovely. Then when I begin to drag in the afternoon, I heat up the English department kettle over at Hue House and make myself a cup of tea. Usually green, but black if I'm esp. sleepy or if I happen to have milk on hand.
